It is all happening in the Royal family – weddings, new siblings and let’s face it, some speculation relating to Her Majesty and her spouse’s health with regards to succession. Change has started and will continue because not even the Royal family are exempt from our modern day developments such as the increasing numbers of cross cultural marriages. The new ‘Duchess of Sussex’ could breathe new life into the Monarchy and bring some of her poignant world views in tow. The question is, do we really need that?

Well whether needed or not, she is here, in horse and carriage and in a unique electric Jaguar. Nothing less could have been expected from the Golden, gentile couple! There is glamour, romance and guess what? A touch of reality. Yes our Harry has served in the military and Meghan finally became known as an actress. So they know the drill – early rise, food on the go and the stresses and strains of having a career. However, as much as they share some normality with us mere mortals, they are still worlds apart with mega millions being spent on wedding security.

What does Meghan offer the UK? Honesty, respect and personality. There is something very genuine and warm about her and she seems very much in tune with her husband, who encourages her both as a woman in her own right and as part of a couple. When involved in visits there is no awkwardness or falling out of sync with protocol indeed she looks like a natural. The younger generation are in awe and the older generations will recall a very brave Harry during his late mother’s procession. There is almost a protectiveness from some toward him and as such a tenderness felt for Meghan.

Statistics revealed that leading up to the wedding people, especially youngsters, were less excited by this couple’s decision to tie the knot when compared with previous Royal weddings. It seems that where you are situated in line with the throne may be key. Harry is sixth in line therefore we can assume a bit of pressure is off. Would William have been permitted to marry a lady previously married, of mixed ethnicity and American? I think not but who knows, just take the example of Prince Charles and Camilla and think how this could not have been a possibility before.

Harry and his beautiful bride symbolize change and many claimed that is exactly what the Monarchy needed to do in order to be relevant. So what does the future hold? Feminist seminars? Indeed Harry embraces this about her and is likely to encourage her as a strong influential woman within the perimeters of British etiquette and expectations. Hopefully the press will give them the same respect as William and Kate and family are granted. Meghan bouquet included some of Diana’s preferred flowers ‘forget-me-nots’. So let us not forget the 19th of May 2018 where a new chapter has begun for the Royals.
