‘Glen of the Fairies’ is what Glenshee stands for and it indeed makes a fairytale experience for all ski and snowboard enthusiasts due to its location and overall laid-back atmosphere. 36 runs with a total of 40kms of pisted snow would certainly feed the hungriest of the lot. Located in the picturesque Cairngorms National Park it’s the largest ski resort in Scotland and often dubbed as the three glens.

Starting in 1937 with merely two tractors pulling skiers up a mountain Glenshee never surrendered its progressive build up. 1957 brought Dundee Ski Club over and the first proper tow, and, it certainly wasn’t your sorrowful nutcracker rope but a rather civilised one for the time. Over the next 60 odd years the place gained a lot of momentum, transforming itself into a rather Alpine-style-look Ski Centre.

Accessible car parks with lots of spaces available, queuing for tickets not being much of an issue and a friendly pit-stop Cafe for a warm snack is really what you want for your snow filled weekend. And it’s not all IRN-BRU, the food’s nice and staff friendly. While on the slopes, the organisation, safety and general approach are well-managed and all personnel around are always keen to assist, throwing an odd joke into the banter every-now-and then. In case you get lost within the range, Sam the springer spaniel dog will certainly come to the rescue and a cheer-up.

Never skied before? Not to worry! There’s a snowsport-school on the site with all positivity and ‘chill-infused’ instructors you just might want to entrust your learning to. Adding to the mix for the following year, there’s a plan for a Ceilidh Event, FUN!

Although the Scottish weather doesn’t always allow for snow to last during winter time, on a sunny day and all slopes packed with white powder the Shee makes a magical place to be.
