As we come through the most devastating time of loss, worry, fear, frustration and anxiety, we start to see the light at the end of the tunnel gradually. This light, is a light of hope, a beacon of light that gives us something to hold onto metaphorically, and something to aim for out of these unprecedented and unusual times we have all been living through. It feels almost like the last 2 months have been a time capsule for reflection, and perhaps a moment to pause and breath, and look back on the world in the way it used to be. But now, with this light of hope, it’s our time to look ahead to a new world.

Seeing the Light was written originally with an imaginary of a sea scape in my head with the image of a lighthouse being the beacon of light standing tall and robust that withstands high seas and rough winds and all sorts. Compositionally, there are 2 climaxes in the work, and each one represents 2 crashing waves from the ocean, hitting the land and lighthouse and in doing so cleanses and helps, like a healing process. As some of us mourn loved ones, and continue to live in fear of the worst, we are all confronted with the inevitability of what life is about. Loving, living, and surrendering to the unknown and the known too! And in doing so, we merge with the true flow of life and can access moments of deep joy, peace and equanimity and obtain a knowingness, that everything is interconnected, and everything is forever changing and impermanent. And for this reason, practicing being in the moment is the best remedy of all. It is this reason why I really wanted to release this to the world now as it somehow felt most timely.

A personal note from Phamie:

During my time of lockdown I felt immensely lucky to be living near The Meadows here in Edinburgh, Scotland. Every single day I have been out there doing a ‘thing’ called ‘dance-walking’ © which is a combination of dancing to my favourite music and walking at the same time. This way, you move your body, and have exercise all at once which is great not only for your body but your mind too. It is also incredibly liberating and a great release from being in doors for so long. In doing this in such a divine space as The SEEING THE LIGHT – PHAMIE GOW 2 Meadows, I witnessed the change of seasons, sights and sounds. It was truly magnificent and merely humbling. To observe the trees before the blossom emerged, then taking it in as it was with us, and after it had gone. The beauty of the buds flourishing and coming into bloom, and then departing. It felt like the process of metamorphosis of a butterfly. In essence, we are all like the blossom, we come and we go, but when when we are here, we all have shades of pure beauty that each makes the world what it is today. A new world. A time for beauty, creativity, and evolution.

Seeing the Light was recorded at The Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow on a Steinway and Sons. No edits; one take. Produced, performed and composed by Phamie Gow of Wildfire Records and Publishing.
