OANI Theatre will present Afuera (Outside) and Sabiduría (Wisdom), two productions which form part of the company’s celebrated show Trilogia Libre en Lambe at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The performances draw inspiration from ‘Lambe-Lambe’, a genre of theatre which was started in 1989 by Denise Santos and Ismine Lima in the Bahia Province of Brazil. ‘Lambe-Lambe’ is a form of puppet theatre performed inside a box in which stories are told using puppets and objects accompanied by a musical score. Performances last no more than five minutes and present intimate scenes which are observed by one or two viewers at a time. For the performance, audience members are required to wear headphones and observe the performance through a small window. On the opposite side of the box the puppeteer performs all aspects of the play, working with the lights, sound, props, puppets and objects. Afuera (Outside) explores a moment in the life of an individual living with a handicap, who reveals his emotions to the audience through the act of painting. The show is performed by puppeteer Camila Landon Vío, who uses the technique of stick puppetry to tell the story. Sabiduría (Wisdom) tells the tale of a Chinese child, who guided by his instinct and the encouragement of a Mapuche girl, discovers a new world. Sabiduría (Wisdom) is performed by the puppeteer Adelaida Loyer Greene who performs the show using shadow puppetry.

The performances will take place from 13-17 August, at Summerhall from 12.00 – 13.00 and 17.00 – 19.00 each day. Each show lasts for 4 minutes and is repeated continuously for a period of two hours.
