Drummer, composer and beatsmith Silvan Strauss is the latest signing to Farhot’s Kabul Fire Records. Off the back of winning the coveted Hamburg Jazzpreis, awarded for outstanding skills, eclecticism and contributions to the Hamburg jazz scene, he releases his follow up to debut single Shades with the Tony Allen-inspired Teeth, where gentle hand percussion nestles between a sultry Afrobeat groove, a dubbed out clarinet solo and a mystical hang drum.

To coincide with the track release is a new video with Silvan shot under a spotlight with drums appearing and disappearing yet the groove goes on. Silvan and his Ensemble are set to make their Montreux Jazz Festival debut the same day, his slot sandwiched between Carl Craig and Emma-Jean Thackray.

The song is drawn from his album Facing, set for release November 4th and featuring UK jazz luminary, Joe Armon-Jones (Ezra Collective, Nubya Garcia) and connects the dots between Badbadnotgood, Yussef Dayes and Kiefer across ten finessed lo-fi beatscapes and fifteen collaborations with a medley of Hamburg’s most exciting new jazz talent.
