These Boston, Massachusetts noise rockers have been quietly amassing a cult following here and state-side since their 2012 release Dripping packed a considerable punch, earning its place in many end-of-year lists. With cryptically-titled new album A Hairshirt of Purpose due out in March, lead single ‘Texas’ promises much of what fans have come to love about Pile: near two solid minutes of angular guitar fury à la Modest Mouse’s early recordings, underpinning singer Rick Maguire’s swooped yelling. There is no lyrics sheet to speak of yet, but one can be sure of themes cohesive to the band’s previous work, frequently conjuring a depraved American landscape of dead towns peopled with lonesome weirdos. Be sure to catch their explosive live show as they pass through the UK later this year (Glasgow, June 18th, venue TBC).
