FUTUREPROOF returns for its 14th year, celebrating some of the incredible photographic work emerging from the BA Photography and Fine Art degrees shows of the colleges, universities, and art schools across Scotland. Exhibitions take place in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
For the first time, FUTUREPROOF takes place simultaneously across Street Level Photoworks (Glasgow) and Stills (Edinburgh) – Scotland’s two dedicated photography galleries. This collaboration has enabled FUTUREPROOF 2022 to encapsulate more of the rich and varied forms of contemporary photographic practice by graduates who studied in Scotland.
Since its inception in 2008, FUTUREPROOF has championed the talent and diversity of newly graduated artists from across the length and breadth of Scotland. This year’s exhibition is no different, with artists represented from courses in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Moray, Orkney, and Stirling across Street Level Photoworks (Glasgow) and Stills (Edinburgh). This is the first time this landmark exhibition has taken place simultaneously across Scotland’s two dedicated photography centres. This collaboration has enabled FUTUREPROOF 2022 to encapsulate even more of the rich and varied forms of contemporary photographic practice, with the exhibition featuring work by thirty-two early career artists across the two galleries.
Each of the selected artists has expressed their unique styles and approaches to the medium of photography in their individual ways, exploring both traditional and alternative methods of picture-making, alongside artist-made books and other mediums.

FUTUREPROOF is an annual showcase of new talent in photographic image making, selected from across Scotland’s photography and fine art degree courses. Each year this landmark exhibition reflects the range of approaches and subject matter from recent graduates, celebrating photography as a versatile form of creative expression.
Initiated in 2008 by Street Level Photoworks, the inaugural exhibition featured the work of four artists from Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh Napier University and Glasgow School of Art. Since then, the exhibition has grown both in terms of geographical spread and the number of graduates featured and has established itself as a key exhibition within contemporary photography from Scotland.
The exhibitions take place 12th November 2022 – 29th January 2023 at Street Level Photoworks and 11th November 2022 – 28th January 2023 at Stills.
