February and March are here but it need not be a bleak mid-winter thanks to an eclectic and entertaining array of films, seasons and events at Edinburgh Filmhouse as well as the cinema’s regular programming of the best new releases from home and around the world.

Special Events this month include:

  • Sun 13th Feb – T A P E x Invisible Women Present: Touched

Celebrate the diversity and fluidity of desire with Touched, an alternative early Valentine’s Day screening showcasing sensuous shorts by female and non-binary filmmakers. Co-curated by collectives T A P E and Invisible Women, this subversive and surprising programme connects filmmakers from across the decades, combining contemporary work with rarities from the archive. This screening is captioned for D/deaf or hard of hearing viewers.

  • Thu 10th Mar – Mark Thomas: Product

The comedian and activist visits Filmhouse for a live Q&A recounting the journey and greatest hits of his revolutionary and campaigning Channel 4 TV show

Continuing by popular demand are 70mm screening of Paul Thomas Anderson’s acclaimed Licorice Pizza and from the 4th March, 50th Anniversary screenings of The Godfather.

Alongside new documentary The Real Charlie Chaplin, Filmhouse will screen some of the master’s great works including:

Continuing our ‘François Truffaut: For the Love of Films’ retrospective | A leading light of the French New Wave, François Truffaut made films that were innovative and personal yet highly accessible. His movies were primarily about people, their emotional lives and their relationships with one another. Love, loss, loneliness; desire, doubt, disappointment; trust, betrayal, guilt: these preoccupations permeate his work.
