Released as part of the new compilation by Super-Sonic Jazz entitled ‘Super-Sonic Family Vol. 2’, the new single is released following their acclaimed recent EP ‘Honeymoon Phase’. Dragonfruit continue to accelerate towards global success with yet another example of their infectious songwriting and funky basslines.

Blending elements of South Africa’s amapiano, R&B, hiphop, pop and soul, the Rotterdam-based group’s dynamic sound has already seen them gain a series of accolades across national press and national radio play as well as scoring placements on a number of Spotify editorial playlists.

Opening with minimalist beatwork, swelling synths and lively vocals, Lose My Luck opens playful and gradually expands into the driving drums and bass that is central to Dragonfruit’s sound. Combined with the silky, charismatic lead vocals by Danique van der Vlugt the track is given a commercial edge to contrast against the alternative electronic nature of the musical backdrop.

On the second verse fellow Rotterdam-based artist Kay Slice takes over. The Dutch-Ghanaian artist, who’s debut album received a 4 star rating in Dutch newsmedia, delivers fresh rap bars over the signature sounds of Dragonfruit. His musical style is the result of a quest to his identity, a connection with his roots flavouring his hip-hop tendencies with Ghanaian groove and afrobeats influences – an approach which brings a new dimension to Dragonfruit’s new single.

Speaking on the new single, Dragonfruit explain:

Lose my luck is about the idea that you believe all the good you receive and lucky events that occur are due to a special someone in your life. A lover or friend that crosses your path and things suddenly start to look brighter.

It’s not just love: this person is such a good person that the universe seems to have their back and being near them makes their light and luck spread onto you. It’s superstition tipping over to obsession. You like the high they give you and you’re scared that losing them will also mean losing your mojo, your success, your luck…

Having already gained features across tastemaker press including the likes of Wonderland, Earmilk, Atwood Magazine, C-Heads, Sterofox and Kaltblut as well as placements across Spotify editorial playlists (Soul n the City, Movement, Next Wave Neo Soul, Poolside Grooves, New Music Friday NL, Rhythm n Groove by DJ TARO, Made in NL, Morning Rhythm) and worldwide radio play, including Sublime FM, NPO 3FM, NPO Soul n Jazz, Q Music being added to Amazing Radio’s A-list, the band have built a feverish following and gained millions of streams. With tours across Europe and appearances at renowned North Sea Jazz Festival and Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the band are well on their way to becoming a household name.
