Revered producer and composer Daniel Avery has today announced a 3-track EP containing brand new live versions of tracks from his seminal debut album Drone Logic, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. The first redux, ‘Need Electric’, is available today on streaming platforms, followed by ‘Free Floating’ on November 17th and the final redux, ‘Drone Logic’, will land in tandem with the reissue of the original LP, slated for December 8th on Erol Alkan’s Phantasy label.

Speaking on the origins of the redux EP, Dan explains:

The three versions of Drone Logic Redux were born out of my live show, which I began touring around the Ultra Truth album. Every single note on that tour was deconstructed and rebuilt to create a singular flow encompassing the last ten years of music. I was incredibly excited and inspired by the shape all the versions took, and, of course, to see the crowd reactions. It felt right to send some of them out into the world like this. These tracks are intended to sit alongside the originals. They are companion pieces from a different camera angle. The same heart beating with a new vibration.

Described by the late Andrew Weatherall as “gimmick-free machine-funk of the highest order”, a decade on and Daniel Avery remains one of the country’s most innovative, boundary-pushing artists. Today, Drone Logic still disrupts the traditional template of a dance album.

Daniel recounts the impact of the original Drone Logic release:

Time moves at a breakneck pace, no question, but the decade since Drone Logic, has been filled with so many momentous moments, so many beacons of light I never could have imagined appearing on the horizon that every year has left a deep and unique notch in my memory. The album gifted me a creative life, one that feels as exciting today as it ever has done. The countless stories I’ve heard from you over the years about how it soundtracked special moments or, further still, affected your path in some way – they all mean so much to me. This is why, above all, I simply want to say thank you to every single person who has been there along the road in some capacity, fans old and new. Drone Logic caught fire thanks to word of mouth and that glowing energy I believe continues to live on. We have a lot more news coming around this release so stay tuned.

As he marks its tenth anniversary, Drone Logic remains a compelling, transcendent and hugely influential record for the new generation of electronic music producers. Originally pressed on black wax only, Rough Trade will stock an exclusive crystal clear double-vinyl, with all other retailers stocking a white double vinyl. A pre-order entitles entry to a Q&A + signing event at Rough Trade East with Daniel Avery, Erol Alkan & producer James Greenwood, hosted by Kate Hutchinson.
